Ventspils Nafta Termināls

Transit of crude oil and oil products in the Republic of Latvia is provided by the Latvian Oil Transit Corridor, which comprises main pipelines, railway, crude oil and oil products transshipping terminals, the port of Ventspils specializing in handling of tankers. SIA Ventspils nafta termināls is the leading company involved in transshipment of crude oil and oil products not only at the port of Ventspils but in the whole Baltic Sea region. To save its position among other Baltic terminals and to increase its competitiveness, SIA Ventspils nafta termināls is constantly developing to provide a stable level of transshipment of crude oil and oil products, optimizing expenses, pursuing a flexible tariff policy and researching clients' needs and requirements. Basing on the opinion of the competent analysts regarding development of the oil transit industry, SIA Ventspils nafta termināls already since the middle of the 1990s has actively and purposefully implemented various projects of modernization and expansion of the company in order to save and reinforce competitiveness of the terminal.

 Relevant investment projects implemented by SIA Ventspils nafta termināls:

• reconstruction of the shoretank farm for storage of crude oil and petroleum products and construction of new shoretanks with the total shoretank farm capacity reaching 1.2 million cubic metres;
• construction of two new rail racks for receipt of freight by railway. One of the rail racks is intended for loading and unloading petroleum products with a joint capacity of 4.7 million tonnes of oil products per annum, whilst the other is intended for the receipt of crude oil or petroleum products with a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes of crude oil or 5.5 million tonnes of diesel per annum;
• reconstruction of the company's auxiliary services including the most up-to-date in Latvia fire-station with a fully automated dispatch control centre;
• automatization of the terminal's technological processes;
• rearrangement of one of the terminal's railway facilities for loading/unloading of crude oil;
• construction of a new pumping station;
• improvement of safety of crude oil and oil products transshipment process.

Development projects of SIA Ventspils nafta termināls are implemented continuously. As a result of continuous modernization, the developed infrastructure of SIA Ventspils nafta termināls and high level of its services enables to save the position of the Latvian Oil Transit Corridor as the most attractive among the routes of crude oil and oil products transportation from Russia and other CIS countries even in the present conditions of high international competitiveness.
