The State Labour Inspectorate has organised the good labour protection practice contest “Golden Helmet” for the ninth time. This year the third place in the ‘large company’ category was shared by ““Ventspils nafta” termināls” Ltd (VNT) and JSC “Aldaris”.

This contest sought companies that implement simple measures to reduce stress levels, as well as to improve comfort and operational capabilities of their employees.

“I am glad that VNT, as one of the rare industrial companies, showed courage and was ready to share its experience in the good practice contest “Golden Helmet” for the first time. VNT demonstrated how a medium-sized company implements many creative stress reduction measures, which now significantly exceed simple requirements of regulatory enactments,” said Head of the Cooperation and Development Department of the State Labour Inspectorate Linda Matisāne approvingly.

The Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager Kaspars Liepiņš emphasises that the safety of the people at the terminal is the most important thing, and that is why the company focuses on creating and developing an organisational culture where safety is one of the fundamental values. “We regularly invest into training of employees, promote a healthy lifestyle, sustain psychological preparedness and stability, as well as create a favourable microclimate for mutual communication,” explained K.Liepiņš.

In the ‘large company’ category first place was awarded to the Rural Support Service, and second place – to “Cemex” Ltd. In the category of ‘small companies’ first place was taken by “DPA” Ltd., whereas second place – by “Out Loud” Ltd.

The panel of judges consisted of representatives from the State Labour Inspectorate, the Ministry of Welfare, the Institute for Occupational Safety and Environmental Health of the Riga Stradiņš University, the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia and the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia.

The awards of the State Labour Inspectorate have been presented on 24 October 2014.
